I had the same problem in ELY once! yes there were no Mc D's or Burger kings only row upon row of tea rooms for over 60's & kebab shops for after hours binge drinkers....

I cannot believe that all those places were shut except maybe the library as all the other places are a 7 days a week tourist spot but as i mentioned before if people who know whwere they are going research using that wonderful tool called "internet" first then they wont be disapointed lol

Sorry if i come across as touchy on the subject of the city, i'm not, but Leeds has a largeand colored history that just doesn't get mentioned that much except for York which isn't in Leeds....

Out of interest you may like to know we are called trhe 24 hr city but in truth everywhere shuts after midnight especially in town where all the banks are now bars with no customers....

"You must have passed the town hall, leeds central library & henry moore/leeds city art gallery on your way to the millenium square where you took the photo of the gold clock as it is behind you as you took the photo ?"

- Yes, I did, but everything was shut up so I couldn't visit any of the museums/libraries etc. I would have been keen too.

As I said - I am not trying to paint the place so bleakly, in many ways it's a thriving city - just without a 'cultural quarter' so to speak. I clearly didn't set out to go to Harvey Nicks - I went in there as I said for about 4 minutes. - I actually wanted to do a bit of shopping in the Corn Exchange, but when I got there it had all gone virtually, then I wanted some lunch but there wasn't a single veggie place I could find - no-one I asked could tell me where the place I had looked up beforehand was.

Thanks for the other suggestions. You seem a little touchy about leeds if I may say so - I never said it was the worst place in the world, just that it didn't live up to my over-inflated expectations that have been built up through reading about how 'amazing' Leeds is in the broadsheets.

Obvioulsy you missed all the places of interest!

The royal armouries are down by the canal!, The brewery is down by the river aire with tours!, For places to take photo's of buildings you missed city square and the queens hotel along with some of the oldest buildings in leeds which are all sign posted ! The clock you mention is gold paint and that is the civic hall and up the road behind it is leeds university and campus.

Obviously it depends what you wish to do in leeds to begin with that counts, going into harvey nicks isnt really a fantastic day out is it ? although i have met members of emmerdale, corrie and hollyoaks in there along with various musical groups such as oasis !

What you would really benefit from i think is to check up on the net before you go somewhere about the place you are going then that way when you get there it is all pre-planned for the day and you know the places of interest...

I live in leeds and i know that it isn't the most brilliant place in the country but if you try finding out some history of the place first you may not have been so bored...

I hope next time you come to leeds you go online before travelling and try not to paint the city so bleak after all iv been to peterborough and even i found a place of interest ! [lol]

Yours

[...] are some cracking record shops and stuff but it’s all spread about from what I could see. The northern quarter in Manchester or somewhere like that is far more contained and thus no matter when you go it feels like something [...]

The guitarist and accordianist are members of Balkanic Eruption (he's usually the cellist!), Nick from Baksheesh played some fiddle too, and I think Jude from another band...! Fun day, fun gig! (p.s. that's me in a false beard!)

Nice review.

That's all I wanted to say, really. ;)

I only discovered The Resonance Association yesterday, but I downloaded a few more tracks from Archive.org, and what I've heard up to now has been very encouraging.
